Victoria Falls tours Zambia
Described by the local Kololo tribe
as ‘Mosi-oa-tunya’ - ‘the Smoke that thunders’ and
in more modern terms as ‘the greatest known curtain of falling
water’, Victoria Falls is a spectacular sight of beauty and
grandeur on the Zambezi River, bordering Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Columns of spray can be seen from miles away as 546 million
cubic meters of water per minute plummet over the edge (at
the height of the flood season), covering a width of nearly
two kilometres and plunging into a deep gorge over 100 meters
below.
Facing the falls is another sheer wall of basalt, rising
to the same height and capped by a mist soaked rain forest.
A path running through the rain forest provides the visitor
with an unparalleled series of views of the falls.
One special vantage point is across the knife-edge bridge,
where visitors can have the finest view of the Eastern cataract
and the Main falls as well as the Boiling Pot where the river
turns and heads down the Batoka gorge. The immense depth
of the gorge can be fully appreciated from this perspective
and combined with the sea green river below, the shiny black
rock face and lush green foliage, the 360 degree view from
here is breathtaking.

For shoppers, the best place to buy a wide range of crafts
and curios is the Mukuni Victoria Falls craft village. Here
you can find everything from intricate animal carvings in
stone, wood, or the beautiful green malachite, to masks,
drums, marimbas, walking sticks, jewellery and much more.
Tamba Africa recommends:
White water rafting: Batoka gorge provides one of the most intense sensory thrills imaginable with its twenty three white water rapids and striking scenery deep within the sheer black cliffs, carved over millennia by the great Zambezi River.
River boarding: armed with a body board, a wetsuit, a life jacket, a helmet and fins, you will embark on a river journey playing in the currents, charging the rapids and surfing some of the world’s biggest fresh water standing waves.
Jet boating: hi speed jet-propelled boats will take you down the rapids for the ride of your life.
River excursions: climb aboard the African Queen luxury river cruise and experience the mighty Zambezi River combined with all the extravagance, opulence and gracious hospitality of this boat.
Game viewing: elephants can often be seen in the Zambezi National Park and hippos are regularly seen and heard. There is also rich bird life in the area, including several rare species.
Fishing: Tiger fishing is an unforgettable challenge for keen fishermen, particularly during the warmer months when this unique fanged fish species are most hungry. There are various varieties of bream (tilapia) that are also a good catch. For the more sporting, try catching them on fly.
Horse riding: riding into the teak forests and wilderness areas, crossing over rivers and camping out along the banks of the river is one of the better ways to enjoy the awesome beauty of this area.
Helicopter flights and micro lighting: to fully appreciate the incredible size of the falls and the awesome power of the water, one must see it from the air. Micro light and fixed wing flights are available and the pilot will take you along the wide tranquil upper Zambezi, and over this huge two-kilometre dent in the earth.
Tours: daily trips to the Victoria Falls are organised and this magnificent ‘wonder of the world’ is a highlight of every visitor’s trip. Wilderness Safaris offers island walks at the River Club, and trips to Livingston town, its markets and rudimentary museums.
