South Africa Tourism
Vast and untamed, turbulent and full
of character, South Africa has so much to offer the visitor that it
is often described as ‘a world in one country’. Lying
at the tip of Africa it is the meeting point of two great oceans and
the gateway to the African continent. Every year thousands flock to
this sunny and spacious destination, which boasts a first class tourist
infrastructure at unbeatable value.

See some of the wildest creatures in Africa in the country’s
nineteen national parks, including the famed Kruger National Park,
one of Africa’s the largest. Here you can follow in the footprints
of leopards and lions, watch herds of buffalo grazing across the savannah
and see the rhinoceros and the majestic elephant.
For a touch of sophistication visit South Africa’s fascinating
cities and towns, from the industrialised urban centres to charming
country hamlets. Johannesburg is a racy city of skyscrapers, built
upon the gold seams that have made it the fastest growing city of
the twentieth century. Shopping and entertainment reign supreme, while
its northern neighbour, Pretoria is the country’s pretty capital.
Cape Town is arguably one of the most beautifully located cities in
the world, nestled below the famous Table Mountain and bounded by
ocean on two sides. This laid back city has embraced tourism with
zest and offers first rate facilities and plenty of adventure, it
is also the country’s most historic city, boasting a potpourrie
of culture.

Alternatively, escape the excitement of Cape Town to sip some of the
best wines in the Southern Hemisphere at the beautiful vineyards of
Franschoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch. From here you can comfortably
drive up the Garden Route, where steep rocky cliffs alternate with
glorious white sandy beaches or head into the vast mountain ranges
of the Drakensberg and Cedarberg.
Further north you can experience one of the great World Heritage sites
at St. Lucia, a estuarine lake teeming with bird and aquatic life,
and immerse yourself in the cultural heritage of the proud Zulu people.
Durban is a popular ocean city with a sizeable Hindu community and
great beaches.

The people of South Africa come from many different cultures making
this a melting pot of folklore and traditions. Along the stunning
wild coast experience Xhosa culture in the Transkei where traditional
healers, known as Sangomas, tend to the ills of the people. Even the
deserts of the Northwest have their own special appeal and the sense
of space and light in the sun-drenched Kalahari, with its ancient,
undulating landscape and endless horizons, evokes memories of a land
before time where Bushmen roamed freely.
