Namibia gets its name from the Namib Desert and is one of the most arid and least densely populated countries in Africa, which combined with its dramatic beauty, rich wildlife, interesting history and friendly people, makes it a fascinating travel destination.

The scorched Namib Desert, with its towering red dunes, the haunting Skeleton Coast and the wildlife of Etosha National Park are the main highlights. Visitors come for the sense of space, tranquillity and beautiful desolation that exists in Namibia. Climb some of the highest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei and see some of Africa’s largest elephants and the ‘big five’ at Etosha. Experience the cold sea breeze and fog of the Atlantic Ocean as it engulfs the many shipwrecks and castles of the Skeleton Coast, or soak up the German colonial character of Swakopmund before returning to the bustling capital city of Windhoek.

As distances are so vast in Namibia, guests are usually flown from camp to camp. This gives more time for exploring on the ground. The roads are long and often dusty, therefore time is needed to make a driving safari enjoyable. With the Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls near Etosha, it is a good idea to combine a Namibian safari with a side excursion to Botswana or Zimbabwe. Cape Town is only two hours' flight away from Windhoek, and this also makes a great combination.

A well-developed infrastructure, combined with an extensive choice of parks, resorts and accommodation establishments, makes Namibia an increasingly popular Southern African tourist destination.

Bordering South Africa with the Orange River to the south; Angola to the north along the Kunene, Kavango and Zambezi Rivers; Botswana to the east through the Kalahari Desert; and the rugged Atlantic coastline to the west – this is a land of dramatic contrasts and wide open spaces.
